WHY I AM RUNNING...
VOTE
NOV
6TH!
In 2014, I was elected to serve on the Oxnard Union High School District School Board, and I’m not done. My oldest daughter will start high school next year, my middle daughter two years later, and my son two years after her. I have more to do for my own children, and for every child in our community because powerful schools = powerful communities!
Amazing and incredible things are happening in the OUHSD! Our mission and our motto is, “Powerful futures for EVERY child!”
We have the highest paid teachers in Ventura County. Budgets certified by the Ventura Office of Education. The first graduating class at our newest high school, RCHS, had a graduation rate of 100%. HHS had their highest UC/CSU acceptance rate in its history. RMHS has gone school-wide with their International Baccalaureate program. In 5 out of our 7 schools, every single student eats breakfast and lunch for free. Every junior AND senior takes the SAT - while in school, and on the district’s dime, not the student’s. Our goal is a 100% FAFSA completion rate, and we are getting close. We opened Oxnard Middle College High School this year where students can earn a high school diploma and an AA degree at the same time. We have Options Academies at every site to ensure that ALL students have access to a rigorous curriculum that meets their needs. We are the first high school district in the county to align our graduation requirements to the UC/CSU a-g entrance requirements AND include Ethnic Studies for all freshman. We are the second in the state to adopt voter registration board policy. We passed Measure A so we can build a new high school, and ALL of our schools are going to see millions of dollars worth of improvements - including safety and security and air conditioning in every school by December 2019! Those are jobs that will honor project/labor agreements and bring countless jobs to our communities! CAPE is thriving - named as one of the top-10 (not for profit!) charter schools in California by an independent USC study. We approved their 5-year extension and approved their expansion of a high school program. They are now a K-12 school! We have passed resolutions that protect the rights of immigrant students, LBGTQ rights, end the misuse of standardized testing, and protect, promote and honor public education and the teaching profession, just to name a few. And, really...I could go on.
Please cast one of your votes for Karen Sher for the Oxnard Union High School District School Board! Thank you!!
